Marie's Story

When Marie finally heard the words, “you have cancer,” it was both devastating and strangely relieving. After more than a year of unanswered questions and symptoms, she finally had clarity, but also the painful realization of how serious her illness was. Today, Marie is getting used to her new normal after her initial cancer treatments, and she shares that the hardest part is the uncertainty of not knowing what the future holds, often finding herself fearful to plan ahead. In the face of that unknown, she has chosen to focus on living fully in the present and cherishing each day.

For Marie, discovering The Ottawa Cancer Foundation was life-changing. “I wish I knew about it earlier,” she admits. The support she receives has given her not only hope but also the mental and emotional strength to keep going.

30 YEARS OF CHANGING CANCER JOURNEYS

Marie describes it as absolutely critical; the difference between isolation and resilience, between despair and the ability to embrace life with courage. “It means the world,” she says. “Having the right support around you is essential to survival and well-being.” Thanks to community support, Marie and others like her are not walking this journey alone.
